We are delighted to share that IPEX Consulting is now controlled and majority owned by the employee team.
Over the last 22 years, IPEX Consulting has established a highly trusted brand and track record executing railway technical and commercial advisory and project services. We have powered many of the most pertinent and transformative projects and developments across all rail-served continents.

As of 31st March 2025, an Employee Ownership Trust (the Trust), on behalf of the employees, now holds the majority of the share capital and the controlling interest in the company. Going forward, we anticipate this to continue in perpetuity. Our Founder, Malcolm Wilson, continues to hold a residual shareholding while he maintains, under the new arrangements, a central role in helping the business and the company to develop and thrive.
Ryan Bown, Managing Consultant and Trustee Director, said, “I joined IPEX in 2023 to work alongside and learn from experts of the industry, but it has become much more than that. This is a momentous milestone for IPEX, the company started by Malcolm, but shaped by all those involved, and it’s a privilege to be to be part of that ongoing journey.”
This transfer of ownership has always been anticipated since the founding of the company in 2003. The timing has been chosen carefully to enable the control, benefits, and fortunes to be assumed by the employees at a juncture where the company has reached a state of maturity. The timing has enabled Malcolm to entrust the management and leadership of the company, and its vital legacy, to an expert and established team.
Malcolm retains a fully active role within the company, in business and relationship development and project delivery. He has also become one of our employee trustees, as part of the Trust Board, guiding and nurturing the development of the company, through its management team, for the benefit of the employees. He will bring particular emphasis to working culture and style, career development and fulfilment, and sharing in the proceeds of the business – all of which enhance the efficacy, legacy, and longevity of the IPEX consulting practice.
It is fully anticipated that the remainder of the company ownership will transfer to, and only to, the Trust. This will occur some years from now, when Malcolm has completed his mission to propel IPEX further as an enduring place for great working experience, fulfilment and opportunity for the employees, exemplary projects and advisory experiences for our clients, and exceptional value-add and advancement within our railway consulting sector.
Chris Hoskin, Director and Head of Technical, said, “Over the last nine years I have watched this company morph from our early tentative steps into a truly international powerhouse. This is a credit to the whole team, and a credit to Malcolm for being brave enough to entrust us all with a place on the bridge to steer IPEX forward to greater achievements.”
